I have seen videos of waves crashing over a Nimitz Class super carrier's bows before, but this is pretty ridiculous. Keep in mind that the sea state shown here is pitching a 1100 foot long ship that displaces 100,000 tons like a tugboat. That poor MH-60 Seahawk tied down on the bow, what a terrible place for a helicopter to be under these conditions!
The ship in this video is the USS Kitty Hawk. Video was recorded in 2007-2008. She was my home for 4 years from 2003-2007. This was taken on the deployment after I left. I have enjoyed a few deployments with swells just as bad and worse. We had one deployment where one of the catwalks on the bow had to be replaced. Fun times for sure! I'm attaching a pic of the catwalk damage from a previous deployment.
